One of the things I do for work is run events, & o One of the things I do for work is run events, & often we have to block off parts of the lecture theatre where we hold these events to encourage people to sit in the middle.

After spending years using gift wrap ribbon for this, the student team I worked with challenged me to come up with a more environmentally friendly option.

I liked the idea of making kumihimo cord for this purpose in the colours of our logo, but it meant cutting the eight strands of yarn to a length of 24m. (You need roughly three times as much as your finished length; I wanted 8m.) But kumihimo takes a lot of time—much of which is spent detaching each yarn bobbin & letting it spin free every once in a while because the braiding process takes the twist out. This ball of kumihimo ended up 12.6m long (maybe I stuffed up the measurements!) & took me about a month & a half to braid.

In contrast, this teal ball was made using four stitches of i-cord knitting on a 4mm needle and 8ply yarn. (I tried using a Knitting Nancy but it was too slow; knitting i-cord on a double pointed needle is actually heaps faster.) I started it last Saturday & it’s already at 5.7m.

I am not sure I have the patience to make another kumihimo cord for this purpose. I do need another two, though, so maybe I will try again.
This one is donation #47, not the last one. Whol This one is donation #47, not the last one.

Whole blood this time, because apparently there’s something they like in mine, so they always ask me to give whole blood when I can.

Unfortunately the machine ran out of battery (which I don’t understand as it was plugged into the wall), so a nurse had to rock my donation bag manually & weigh it every 15 seconds until she had judged I had donated enough.
Donation … #47, I think?? Not long until 50! Th Donation … #47, I think?? Not long until 50!

There were student nurses on the floor & one of them attended to me & thanked me for letting her put the needle in.

I removed the bandage a little too early & it started bleeding again, so note to future self: don’t do that.
Super thankful for the staff at @campbelltowncityl Super thankful for the staff at @campbelltowncitylibrary today! I had such fun, chatting to folks, checking out the cosplay, helping the kids track down Wonder Woman, & of course checking out the free comics!

(Isn’t it amazing that you can now get Dog Man as a FCBD issue!)

In the afternoon during the post-lunch slump, the staff brought us matcha lattes, mochi & chocolate, & it was AS IF THEY HAD READ MY MIND! 🤩

This was my con haul at the end of the day (after going a bit nuts at the bookstall 😅).

Note that it includes a signed copy of @christofbogacs’s “Under Kingdom” fresh off the presses!

Massive thank yous to Campbelltown City Library for having me & for taking care of us so well. Looking forward to coming again 😊
